Firstly, if you don't have anti-virus software installed, get some now. Today. Don't delay. After all, you might receive a system-crashing virus with your next e-mail, and you wouldn't want to lose your valuable data or send that thing out to your friends without your knowledge, would you? There are others, but these companies are very popular, and offer tried, tested, and regularly-updated products.

Zone Labs

Secondly, get yourself a firewall. Some of the anti-virus sendors provide this with some of their packages, but you can download a freeware version of Zone Alarm from Zone Labs, or buy a much better version from them if you prefer.

Articles and programs to help you understand and remove programs that may be monitoring your computing activities without you even knowing about it! Excellent resource, very readable, very informative and useful.
